Think for a moment about how the convergence of technology and globalization has changed the way that we communicate, collaborate, and coordinate with one another. Our students, at the undergraduate and graduate level, thrive in peer-to-peer learning environments where they can find their voice, openly share their perspective, challenge assumptions, and embrace civil discourse. Dr. Craft wants to share her strategies to develop diverse and inclusive student groups; establish collaborative peer-to-peer learning opportunities; and challenge adult-learners to find their voice, cultivate a growth mindset, and ultimately achieve success far beyond the course learning outcomes.
In 2021, civic education is more important than ever. Constant political, social, and economic upheaval threatens the integrity of our democracy. Climate change and the global threat of a pandemic have highlighted the importance of thinking as global citizens. Our students are watching this unfold as they consider the implications for their lives beyond the classroom. But that doesn’t mean that they are content to just sit and watch. How do we prepare students to be good national and global citizens once they graduate?
